Small Desk Ideas

Last year the Pandemic shifted how most of us work. For a great majority of us, we had to go home to work due to lock down and containing the spread of the virus.

I didn’t have a work from home space in my house. I would normally sit with my legs crossed on the couch with a my laptop on a pillow over my lap. That’s not comfortable for over 8 hour days weeks on end.

So I converted a very small corner of my home into a suitable and cozy area I can get my work done. And by work, I mean, I make YouTube videos, write blog posts, apply for jobs and perform random shenanigans as I’ve been out of a job since April 2020

What’s on the Desk?

My desktop including Macbook Pro Retina Display, laptop stand, keyboard, mouse, kindle, USB hub extender, long mouse pad and cell phone stand.

A desk area starts out with a, well, desk. This desk is compact and best of all foldable. It’s white to match the bookshelves. It’s the right size for me. I find if I have a bigger desk I just end up putting more unnecessary crap all over it.

A desk area needs to be comfortable and functional, a place I want to work at during the week.

My laptop is an oldy but a goody. Yes, it’s a 2015 Macbook Pro (early 2015). Yes, I eventually would love to get a new m1 or maybe the remored m2 computer coming out soon (maybe). It works for me and I’m happy with it.

For me, I need height of my laptop so I don’t strain my neck. I love this laptop stand so much because I’m able to utilize the space under my laptop for my keyboard or notebooks. The keyboard is great too, it’s a solar battery powered keyboard with numeric keyboard. It’s almost perfect. I wish it was backlit but it’s really close to perfect!

The long mousepad with lights is fun and practical. Along with the extended USB extender that also changes color around it and a USB extender which has some light that change color. The USB extender is great but I only have 4 extra USB and sometimes I need an extra one or two USB ports. I deal.

I do keep a notepad near me just in case I’d like to write down a to do list or jot down notes. Right now, I am using a Rae Dunn notebook and a Rae Dunn pen which are my favorites at the moment.

Books on the Shelf

Reading is so important to me. I like to keep my mind sharp and learn new skills or different ways to look at the world. I used to be an avid reader with reading 4 – 6 books a weeks. I’ve cut back but I’m slowly getting back into it with some spectacular reads on my shelves.

All the books on the shelf I’ve either read on my kindle or plan to read in the future.

Electronics

Canon EOS M50 and Sony a5100 Cameras

Besides what’s on my desk, I have loads of electronics all around the desk. For example, I purchased a Logitech 1080 webcam when I wanted to stream. I tried it. Not sure what the problem was… maybe I had slow internet or my computer couldn’t hadn’t the streaming software plus my game at the same time and the webcam software. It was a nightmare. I def want to try streaming The Sims 4 again.

Blue came out with a microphone called the Snow Ball which I love. It’s so small and cute and powerful.

Also, I have my cameras. My babies really. The first one I purchased was the Sony a5100 camera. That camera is super lightweight, interchangeable lenses, very portable and easy to use. My only issue was the camera would overheat about 20 minutes into any video. That sucked!

My other baby, my Canon EOS M50 mark i is a dream. Yes, it’s a little bigger and with the deity d4 microphone makes for transport a little tricky you can’t beat the picture and the sound with this duo.

My headphones of choice are the Skull Candy Crushers. I like that these are bluetooth compatable when charged and I can use them with the wire. Usually, I use the mire that comes with the headphones beause this bad boy is never charged. I love the sorta noise cancelling. I don’t LOVE noise cancelling in general, I like to hear whats going on around me.

I have a lamp light which I use sometimes, not much though, I like the darkness. That sounded dark but light bothers me sometimes.

One of the funnest electronics I own is my moon/galaxy globe that provides a decent amount of light. It’s more fun than practical though.

Decor

Decorating my own space is very euphoric for me. I get to show off my personality. I get to bring color into a dull space. But most importantly I get to surround myself with things I love.

I love crystals. They are so pretty and so calming. It could be just me that I think this pretty hunks of crystal are calming. Let me live in my illusion.

Stationary

I was and am that nerdy kid who got soooo excited for Back to School supplies to be restocked for the year. I’m not sure why, I hated school but I love me some cool stationary supplies.

With the stationary I’m going to include a small assortment of essential items such as a light for reading books when its dark, a chapstick, a essential oils roller ball, a travel size of Tylenol, a eyeglass cleaner and a hair clip.

The roller ball and the Tylenol are for headaches mostly. My really good friend got me that roller ball and it’s a miracle worker.
