The Heart of Christmas by Brenda Novak

***CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD***

Novak has done it again! And I’m sure she’ll be doing it much more. She’s created another captivating story with believable characters and realistic situations. I feel like she writes with substance. I was on pins and needles for the majority of this book. Up until the last couple of pages, I didn’t know how this book was going to end. Which is a good thing and a bad thing all at once. She has pulled my heart strings so tight I had to walk away from this book a few times just to come right back when I was able to catch my breath because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Novak creates this amazing but small town of Whiskey Creek. Where everyone knows you, your mother and what you had for breakfast yesterday. A lot of the people who we encounter we have met in the previous Whiskey Creek series. Which brings you a nice warm feeling, almost like if you run into old friends.

This story is about Rex and Eve. Rex is a mysterious newbie to town. And Eve is our single friend in town who has seen all her friends coupled up. Eve owns a Bed and Breakfast in town.

Our story begins with Eve waking up in bed. She’s confused. Blinding headache. Befuddled by why she has a strange man in her bed. She didn’t know who he was. She didn’t remember how he got there. She didn’t remember how SHE got there. Then she decides to take a closer look at him. As she’s observing him, he literally flips her world upside down in a matter of seconds.

Rex is completed as FUCK! He brings some serious baggage with him on his journey to Whiskey Creek. And he plans to keep it to himself. Until he meets Eve. Eve who is like no one he has ever met before. Eve who makes him feel peace and tranquility. Eve who confuses the shit about of him. Eve his solace. Until trouble starts knocking Whisky Creek’s door.

The journey Eve and Rex take is exciting and riveting with plenty of turns to keep you intrigued. It is a book worth reading. I seriously recommend this book for romance novel readers. Good stuff Novak. Keep ’em coming!

Happy Reading,
Mel
